How to change your Google Voice number to a different phone or device
How to change Google Voice devices – remove/add your Google Voice number to a different phone!
I use Google Voice for my “work number” for my small business.
Recently one of my freelancers moved on to a different position. This person had my company Google voice number on her phone and I needed to figure out how to add it to a different phone without embarrassing myself by asking her to remove the app.
It took me a little digging to figure out how to do it, so I thought I’d share the process with you – in case this is something you also need to do!
Turns out, this is super easy!
Step 1:
Change your password to the gmail account that Voice is linked to. First of all, this is a good practice when you bring on somebody new and second of all, you don’t want that person to have access to Google Voice via the web. You can either change the password through the Google Admin console, or log into the gmail account and change it as the user.
Step 2:
You’ll first need to remove the linked device from the Google Voice account. Log into the Google Voice account for the user who has access at voice.google.com
Step 3:
Go to the Settings menu and click on the gear icon:
Step 4:
Scroll down to My devices and find the device and associated phone number to remove. Click on the X to remove the device:
Step 5:
Click Remove to confirm.
Step 6:
Don’t forget to also remove the Linked phone number altogether!
Scroll down to Linked numbers and click the X to remove the phone number completely.
Step 7:
Click Remove to confirm.
