Sub-group monetization on the horizon for Facebook groups
Who doesn’t want a Facebook group that makes money?
If you don’t, you’re probably reading the wrong blog. 🙂
As you probably know, I teach strategies to help people build viable money-making businesses out of their Facebook groups. (Check out my course here.)
Most of my strategies involve moving as much of the money-making part off of FB.
The reason I do it this way is admins have been burned many a time by Mr. Zuck… And even though we put a lot of energy and love into our groups, they can be taken away from us at any time, with no notice.
But I digress, as I’d like to take this opportunity to give a high five to FB for hearing admins’ plea for tools to support them in earning money from the groups that they put so much time and energy into.
Facebook is testing a paid subgroups feature which will allow admins to create a subgroup that members can subscribe to for a fee. The paid sub-group feature is currently in development and not available to all groups.
According to Facebook, admins will be able to use this subgroup to offer:
- Exclusive access to content
- Enriching experiences like coaching or networking
- Deeper conversations
The sub-group feature will work for some groups, but not all. I run a neighborhood group and I haven’t currently thought of a way to use a paid sub-group for this type of community.
(If I do, I’ll let you know!)
Facebook also claims they will be introducing other tools in the future to help financially support group admins.
Let me be clear: I still firmly believe you should move as much of your money-making opportunities off of FB as possible.
You don’t own your group. Facebook does.
If you keep all of the money-making in the group and Facebook takes it away for some reason, poof! Your business is gone.
What I’m not opposed to: Additional money-making using sub-groups!
