How to report a fake profile to Facebook
If you’re like me, as a Facebook group admin, you see a lot of fake profiles trying to enter your group. It can be super frustrating to keep on top of them!
Do us all a favor, and when you see one, report it. Facebook is notoriously bad about permitting obviously fake profiles, but the more people who report profiles, the more likely the ones will be rooted out.
Here’s how to report a fake profile:
1. On a desktop, click on the three dots in the upper right hand corner of the main profile page and select “Find support or report:”
2. Select the problematic “Fake Account:”
3. If you feel so inclined, review the Community Standards and then click Submit:
4. Don’t get your hopes up.
Facebook is not great about removing fake accounts – remember the process is usually completed by artificial intelligence, which is often… not that intelligent. But the more people who report fake accounts, the smarter Facebook’s AI gets.
5. Consider next steps.
You could block the profile at this point, but that doesn’t mean the person is blocked from your group. There’s probably no point in you blocking them personally because their mission has nothing to do with your profile – for some reason (probably nefarious), they simply want access to your group. You’ll can block their profile when you refuse their entry into your group (in a different process).
